5 Simple Ways to Support Your Immune System

5 Simple Ways to Support Your Immune System
Posted on

We know our immune system is the key to avoiding getting sick, so why don’t we treat it right? It turns out that supporting your immune system is easy. You can do it with food, sleep, and even protein supplements. Here are our top 5 immune supporters to keep you from getting sick.

Vitamin C

The most well-known immune-boosting vitamin has to be vitamin C. It’s a vitamin that is not naturally occurring in our bodies, which means it’s easy for it to become low. The good news is many foods are rich in vitamin C: from oranges to broccoli, strawberries, capsicum, spinach, and even kale. A varied diet with all these foods included should keep your vitamin C levels at their peak.

Vitamin B6

Vitamin B6 is a key component in your body’s ability to produce antibodies which help to fight off infections. Without enough in your diet, you’ll be less able to fight off any infections that arise and they will have a greater chance of getting worse. You can get a solid dose of vitamin B6 from chicken breast, avocado, bananas, and lentils.

Vitamin E

If your diet is full of vitamins C and B6 but you’re still getting sick, it could be vitamin E that is lacking. Vitamin E is also known for its immune support function but it needs to be taken carefully. Too much can be just as detrimental as too little, so try to get a healthy dose in food, rather than supplements. Almonds, sunflower seeds, and eggs are all good choices.

Amino acids

There are 9 essential amino acids and many more non-essential ones which support our body day in, day out. Three of these – Glycine, Alanine, and Arginine – are all considered beneficial for your immune system. The Nutraviva ranges of Collagen and Gelatin each contain these acids, along with many others. Take our supplements daily in drinks like juice, water, or smoothies, or meals like soups, curries, pasta, and anything else you can dream of.

A good night’s sleep

Overnight your body produces cytokines which are an essential ingredient to a strong immune system. If you skimp on sleep, you’ll also be skimping on these good guys. A full 7-9 hours per night should help keep your immune system functioning at its best.
