Understanding the Differences Between Our Collagen Powders

Collagen is a crucial protein that plays a vital role in supporting skin, digestive balance, joint, bone, and muscle health. At Nutraviva, we offer a range of high-quality collagen powders to suit different preferences and needs.

Below, we break down the key differences between our hydrolysed collagen powders to help you choose the best one for you.

Collagen Hydrolysate

Available in 100g, 450g, and 800g pack sizes.

- Pure & unblended hydrolysed bovine collagen powder

- Grass-fed & finished

- Types I and III collagen

- Kosher & Halal options available (see product page information for certifications)

- Sourced from Brazil, packed in Australia

- GMO free

- Tasteless & odourless

- Hot & cold water soluble

We also offer this same pure collagen powder in our Performance Collagen 400g and 800g packs, which are HASTA-certified collagen supplements. This certification is essential for athletes who require all of their supplements to be tested for banned substances. If you don’t require this testing, we recommend purchasing the standard Collagen Hydrolysate, as it is the same product simply without the HASTA certification.

Australian Collagen Hydrolysate

Available in 400g and 900g pack sizes.

- Pure & unblended hydrolysed collagen powder

- Grass-fed & pasture-raised

- Halal

- Types I and III collagen

- 100% made and packed in Australia

- GMO free

- Hot & cold water soluble

Please note: This new Australian made hydrolysed collagen powder has a slightly stronger taste and smell profile than our Brazilian-sourced bovine collagen powder. This is because it has a unique refinement process and it also uses fresh hides, as opposed to frozen hides. This process has less whitening also, with the product more of a creamy colour rather than white. Also, due to the nature of the Australian cattle industry, cattle may not always be finished on grass if there are factors such as pasture loss/ drought.

Marine Collagen

Available in 280g pack size (a 600g size is currently available in our Black Label range as a trial size option).

- Sourced from wild-caught North Atlantic Cod

- Pure & unblended hydrolysed marine collagen powder

- Sustainably sourced (MSC certified)

- Type I collagen

- Sourced from Norway

- Halal

- GMO free

- Hot & cold water soluble

Which Collagen Should You Choose?

All of our collagen powders provide the same core benefits: supporting skin health, digestive balance, joint function, bone strength, and muscle recovery. The choice primarily depends on your preference for the source of collagen.

Concerning 'type', this is where some confusion can occur for customers. Marketing for specific health areas can often be aligned with types of collagen; however, the 'type' simply references where the collagen itself is derived from.

Collagen type I is the predominant collagen in the skin, collagen type II comes from cartilage and bone, and collagen Type III from connective tissues (found in the skin of some animals also but in much lower levels than collagen type I). You may even see collagen types V and X in some supplements, these are derived from eggshell matrix. It is important to note that the type of collagen I, II, or III is not the most significant factor in choosing a high-quality collagen powder.

The most significant factor is the amino acid profile, as collagen has an extremely high proportion of glycine, proline, and hydroxyproline. These 3 amino acids contribute to joint and bone health, skin, hair, and nail health, muscle maintenance, and injury recovery.

Another consideration is ensuring that the collagen powder brand that you choose is transparent with its sourcing and purity claims. At Nutraviva, we pride ourselves on our transparency. We independently test our product claims and provide only the highest quality hydrolysed collagen powders, including for gluten, shelf life, pesticides, and heavy metals. We have also recently independently tested our bovine collagen powders for Bovaer and Rumin8, with no traces found in our products sourced from cattle. Testing information and certification documents can be found on product pages under the tab Technical Data.
