Tip: Adding a few teaspoons of collagen not only make an excellent thickener, but also boost the nutritional value and provide some great health benefits. See our flavoured collagen line, an excellent addition to any smoothie.
1. Choose your fruits (about 1 cup in total)
Some great fruit bases include strawberries, blueberries, mangoes, bananas, pineapple, cherries and peaches.
Frozen fruit works best. It blends thicker than fresh fruit and makes a colder more refreshing smoothie. If you don't have frozen fruit you can either pre-freeze it or add a cup of ice to the mix.
2. Add a thickener
Greek yogurt, peanut butter or vanilla yogurt are all good options, about 1/2 cup is ideal. If you want a thinner smoothie, you can use less or skip it all together.
For a more nutritious, protein packed smoothie add a few teaspoons of Nutraviva collagen powder. Collagen is a great choice and provides some some excellent health benefits. as well.
3. Choose a liquid
Regular or almond milk is great, coconut milk goes well with tropical fruit and gives a richer, creamier flavour. 1.25 cups of liquid makes the perfect consistency, less if you didn’t add a thickener.
4. Throw in some extras for additional nutrition
Spinach or kale for added nutrition, flax seeds for omega-3s or other fibre-rich grains can add extra beneficial nutrients.
5. Add a flavour boost
The addition of mint, vanilla, cinnamon, ginger or honey add that extra taste and take your smoothie to another level.
