1. Choose your fruits (about 1 cup in total)
Some great fruit bases include strawberries, blueberries, mangoes, bananas, pineapple, cherries and peaches.
Frozen fruit works best. It blends thicker than fresh fruit and makes a colder more refreshing smoothie. If you don't have frozen fruit you can either pre-freeze it or add a cup of ice to the mix.
2. Add a thickener
Greek yogurt, peanut butter or vanilla yogurt are all good options, about 1/2 cup is ideal. If you want a thinner smoothie, you can use less or skip it all together.
For a more nutritious, protein packed smoothie add a few teaspoons of protein powder. Collagen is a great choice and provides some some excellent health benefits. as well.
3. Choose a liquid
Regular or almond milk is great, coconut milk goes well with tropical fruit and gives a richer, creamier flavour. 1.25 cups of liquid makes the perfect consistency, less if you didn’t add a thickener.
4. Throw in some extras for additional nutrition
Spinach or kale for added nutrition, flax seeds for omega-3s or other fiber-rich grains can add extra beneficial nutrients.
5. Add a flavour boost
The addition of mint, vanilla, cinnamon, ginger or honey add that extra taste and take your smoothie to another level.
