Collagen Hydrolysate

Collagen Hydrolysate

What is Collagen Hydrolysate?

Collagen is made up of 18 amino acids and is the most abundant protein in our body, making up around 30% of total human protein content. It essential as it helps build strong fibers and connective tissue. It is commonly referred to as the glue that holds our body together, ensuring the integrity, elasticity, and regeneration of our bodies’ connective tissues, and thus maintaining our bones, tendons, ligaments, cartilage, blood cells and vessels, skin, tissue, hair and nails.

It is known that by our mid-twenties, our body starts losing its natural ability to produce collagen and it then starts to breakdown collagen at a rate of 1 to 2% per year. This can be easily observed as our skin starts to wrinkle and become thinner. We also start to find that bits and pieces are begin to sag and we can no longer move as freely as we once used to.

Scientists have discovered that taking hydrolyzed collagen can assist with kick starting the body into the resynthesis of the amino acids and begin producing collagen again.

Hydrolyzed collagen powder contains a unique profile of amino acids, including eight of the nine essential amino acids. Glycine, hydroxyproline, proline and arginine account for over half of collagen hydrolysates' amino acid content. It is this uniquely high concentration, not found in any other plant based material, that assists with all the documented health benefits associated with collagen.

Types of Collagen

There are over 20 types of Collagen found in the human body. They vary slightly in there structure however the most common forms sold are Type I,II and III.

Type I and II are predominantly found in the dermal layer of the skin, bone, tendon, muscle and connective tissue. While type II collagen comes from cartilage.

Making Gelatin and Collagen Hydrolysate

When collagen is extracted from an animal, the source material is heated and undergoes processing that helps begin to unravel the triple helix chains of the molecules. The liquid is then separated and dried and as this occurs the collagen is now called Gelatin and will gel if mixed with water. The protein chains in gelatin are much larger and it takes the body longer to breakdown and digest. As result,  gelatin is an ideal product to help with gut issues, reduce hunger cravings and reduce inflammation to the mucous membrane by coating the digestive tract and drawing water to the gut. As the protein is slowly digested the amino acids then go to work around the rest of the body.

Collagen undergoes an additional process in the manufacturing stage whereby specific enzymes are added to breakdown the protein chains into small peptides. These smaller peptides makes the collagen much more bioavailable when compared to gelatin as it can be absorbed into the bloodstream very rapidly. Once the enzymes have finished cleaving the protein chains down, the liquid solution is then sprayed dried  and is referred to as collagen hydrolysate. This form of collagen can no longer gel and is easily combined into hot or cold liquids.

Collagen hydrolysate has many reported health benefits including:

  • Skin, hair and nail health
  • Exercise and injury recovery
  • Inflammation and pain reduction
  • Healthy bones and joints
  • Protein supplementation

Marine Collagen

Marine collagen is made in a similar fashion. The source material comes from the scales and skin of fish. The main differences between beef and marine collagen is to do with the peptide size. Marine collagen has a lower molecular weight and as a result is digested faster than other forms of collagen, this also improves the bioavailability to cells. As a result marine collagen is renowned for its suitability in the beauty industry. Many people also prefer to take marine collagen as it is sourced from fish as opposed to beef or pork.

Our product is produced under a patented technology to produce an end product that is 100% pure, with no other ingredient other than protein-derived collagen. The product contains no additives, no preservatives, no flavouring substances, no fats, no sweeteners nor any artificial substance whatsoever. Finally, our product does not use any raw material that falls under the Genetically Modified Organisms.

Nutraviva grass fed and finished Beef Collagen is 100% pure, unflavoured and mixes easily, allowing you to combine with juice or any other hot or cold beverage of your choice. Collagen hydrolysate has no gritty taste like some other forms of protein and is an alternative to whey based proteins, which can cause bloating and stomach upset in some people.

Nutraviva Marine Collagen  is sourced from wild caught, deep sea red snapper. It is without doubt the most premium Collagen Hydrolysate in the market place. It is colourless, odourless and has no discernable taste.
